Working together towards growth.

I offer individual and couples therapies, as well as psychological evaluation. Many clients come in to address life transitions, anxiety, stress, sadness, and the need for a change. No matter what brings someone to therapy, we work closely together to gain a deeper understanding of personal patterns, emotions, and behaviors that may be contributing to feeling stuck.

Call or email today to take the first step towards your own personal growth: 210-201-2933 or Info@ComharCounseling.com

*Currently offering telehealth for Illinois,  Texas, and PSYPACT participating state residents and walk-and-talk therapy for clients in the northern Chicago suburbs.

Individual Therapy:

What brings a person to therapy can range from managing current stressors to deep-rooted patterns of interacting. The course of therapy may differ depending on what brings a person in, but overall, individual therapy involves having a safe, private space to discuss your needs and understand your unique worldview.

I have extensive experience with children, adolescents, and adults struggling with a variety of issues, such as depression, anxiety, relational difficulties, life transitions, and professional goals.

Telehealth/Teletherapy:

Teletherapy is therapy conducted via videoconferencing on your computer, tablet, or phone. Telehealth offers many of the same benefits as traditional therapy but from your home or office. Telehealth allows for greater access to therapy, enables clients to cut out the time spent traveling to and from appointments, and some clients report feeling more open when talking about difficulties from their homes. However, there are some things to consider, in terms of finding a quiet, secure place in your home to have appointments, technological comfort, and that certain differences do occur when not sitting together and directly sharing the therapeutic space. It may take some time to adjust to an online format, but in general, telehealth allows for a similar experience as in-office therapy. Teletherapy is conducted through a HIPAA compliant server and you will receive a link to sign-on prior to each session.

A few things to consider when starting teletherapy:

  • Do you have a private space where you can be left alone for 45-60 minutes?
  • Can others outside the room hear you talking?
  • How stable is your internet connection? (If you can, plug your computer into the router directly! Or move your computer as close as you can to your WiFi router)
  • A bigger screen, such as a laptop or desktop computer is ideal; whatever the device, have it propped up so that it is stable and the camera is about level with your eyes.
  • Please make sure you are well lit and don’t have a bright light source directly behind you – part of therapy is seeing facial expressions!

If you need help troubleshooting any of these, please let us know!

Walk-and-Talk Therapy:

Walking and talking naturally fall together. For many people, it can feel easier to open up during the course of a walk. Walk-and-talk therapy offers opportunities to practice mindfulness and to engage all of the senses in the therapeutic work. There are also well-established benefits to being in nature for mood and physical health.

Available to established clients in Chicagoland, walks take place in an open part of the forest preserve and are contingent on weather conditions.

Couples Therapy:

At some time or another, most partners in a relationship experience difficulties in communication. Some relationships might need a “tune-up”; others may need additional support and skills development. The focus is on support for both partners to feel heard, improve communication, and increase awareness of their patterns in relating in order to strengthen feelings of connection.

Psychological Evaluations:

Psychological evaluations are typically conducted in order to assist in diagnostic clarification, treatment planning, and generating recommendations. Individuals seeking to learn more about themselves may also participate in psychological evaluation for self-exploration, to gain a better understanding of their abilities and patterns of interacting with the world, and to help clarify personality traits.

Psychological evaluations vary in length and cost depending on the type of testing required. Given that evaluations involve serval components that include interviews, test administration, scoring and interpretation of tests, and a written report, they require several hours to complete. The amount of time needed to complete an evaluation varies depending on the goals of the evaluation, but typically ranges from 4-12 hours, although may require additional sessions. Additionally, a separate appointment will be scheduled when the test results and recommendations will be discussed.

If you are being referred by another professional for a psychological evaluation (such as a physician or therapist), it is very helpful to have that professional contact me or email me a brief note (with a signed consent/release of information form) indicating what the purpose of the referral is before I see you or your child.
